ADVANTAGES

► Piles can straddle cross lines, and Plates can be used as sheeting above and below cross lines.
► Pile size and cofferdam weight is the same for sheet pile systems or Beam and Plate systems.
► Requires the placement of pieces.
DISADVANTAGES
► Plates do not protect against in flow of water and bottom heave in soft mud’s.
► Cannot do single wale or cantilever wall in soft mud.
► Pile hole will not stay open in sand and soft mud. Can be driven with Vibrohammer.
ADVANTAGES
► Piles are driven below base of excavation and will serve as a cut off wall. Eliminates water flow into base of excavation and bottom heave in soft clay and Bay Mud.
► Can be used in C-80 soil.
► Piles in place prior to excavation.
DISADVANTAGES
► Creates excessive vibrations during pile driving.
► Sheet pile can easily become damaged. Approximately 20% of sheet weight must be liquidated after the sheets are removed. Liquidation charges are the contractors responsibility.
► Requires pile driving crew, crane and pile driver to install.
► Requires pile crew and equipment to remove.
► Pile cannot be driven over the top of crossing utilities.
► Pile size and cofferdam weight is the same for sheet pile or Beam and Plate system.
► Requires placement of a larger number of pieces than Pile and Plate.
